Rusakov, Alexander Isaakovich

(b. 1898 Sevsk, Oryol guberniya – d. 1952, Leningrad)

Painter and graphic artist

1910s –  Studied at Ye. Zvantseva’s private school in St. Petersburg, being taught by V. Serov, M. Dobuzhinsky. L. Bakst, and K. Petrov-Vodkin.

1918–1924 – Studied at the studios of O. Braz, N. Dubovsky and D. Kardovsky at the Petrograd Free Art Training Studios (PGSKhUM), an institution renamed Higher Art and Technical Studios (Vkhutemas) in 1921 and Higher Art and Technical Institute (Vkhutein) in 1922.

1924–1927 – Member of the Artists Community association.

1926–1932 – One of the organizers and a member of the Artists Circle association.

1927–1930 – Participant in all of the Artists Circle’s exhibitions.

1932 – Joined the Leningrad branch of the Artists Union and since then took part in exhibitions of Leningrad artists. 1943: Took part in an exhibition in Nazi-besieged Leningrad.

1957 – Had his first personal exhibition at the Leningrad branch of the Artists Union.
